Closing Remarks
Prof. Ian Mercer
- Strengthening the links CCW/NPAs/AsONB -with the latter as agents CCW would have an unrivalled overview of landscape/land use matters. No protected areas in Valhalla but all-Wales would still need land use labels.
- The Workforce for that land use spectrum has to be conserved itself. And farmers need to feel they own the operations when persuaded to sustain the public assets alongside their central work. and
- The rest of the population, rural and urban, need to understand what is needed to maintain that which gives them pleasure, challenge, clean water, carbon stored and a heritage. Foot and Mouth Disease in 2001 caused folk to understand the connections within the countryside,CCW's Threshold 21(1993) called for compulsory environmental demonstration for all undergraduates. Its our job to keep that understanding growing.
