Activity aims:
The activity demonstrates the concept of sustainable tourism. Students discuss a hypothetical weekend break for a family in the North York Moors. They consider the needs of the family, the environment and the local economy with regard to transport, eating, accommodation and recreation and then compare the most enjoyable and convenient options with the most sustainable options.
Students will learn:
- that managing an area sustainably means considering the needs of the environment, the visitors and local people.
- that people can influence the impact they make in an environment.
Students will be able to practice:
- identifying the needs and views of others;
- participating in group discussions;
- working as a team to collect and evaluate ideas.
